As some of you may already know, Astrophotography is one of my biggest passions. The Stars, Moon and Planets have always been my favourite thing to study. Good Morning, Midnight is a story following an ageing scientist, Augustine and an Astronaut, Specialist Sullivan.
Augustine is part of a research team based in the Arctic Circle. When news comes of war, the researchers are evacuated. Augustine chooses to stay behind, knowing there will be no return trip for him. He's ageing now - a life time spent studying the stars above, he knows his time to become star dust is upon him. After discovering a young girl left behind in the panic of the evacuation, Augustine starts to feel emotions he's never felt before for little Iris - love for a child. Was it the guilt of never knowing his own daughter that made him feel this way for Iris?
Specialist (Sully) Sullivan, aboard the Aether, is starting to realise that she could've been a better mother, a better wife. After two years in space the Aether loses all contact from earth. Sully spends countless hours scanning the radio waves for news from home. She and her crew mates start to lose hope. They're on their return trip to Earth with no idea what they'll discover when they arrive back home.
Contact is made. After all this time of silence, Augustine hears Sully's transmission on the radio waves. There is hope once again.
If you want a book that makes you more emotional than you thought possible, then Good Morning, Midnight is the story for you! I was a blubbering mess towards the end. Such a beautiful read.
Do you have a favourite planet? Let us know! I'd have to say that Mars has always been my favourite.
Camille xx

Definitely recommending this to my friend, she's a real bookworm!
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a lovely book, would love to read it. I would love to learn more about the universe at school but somehow at this point all we learn from geography is rivers, states, how many iron some country has or which city have which factory...
ReplyDeleteYour writing skills are so good! And earth is my favorite planet
ReplyDeleteThe book sounds interesting but not of my genre. But thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure my heart can take getting more emotional right now, but it's sounds like a lovely book :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite planet, but Saturn is always interesting! I love astro photography as well and grabbed a beautiful shot at Joshua Tree last year with the Milky Way!
ReplyDeleteThis is the kind of book that you want to read if you want something meaningful and worthwhile! I would love to read the rest of the story. But I'll probably prepare a box of tissue first!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a lovely novel and it would be nice to read during the summer when you have all the time in the world. I imagine you won't be able to put it down until you finish the whole book!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I have a favorite planet ... ours is pretty great. Haha

ReplyDeleteI used to love astrology and the planets but I guess with work and uni I kinda forgot about it. My favorite planet is of course earth we have everything here. x

ReplyDeleteAstrophotography is very nice, it lets you dream about the whole univers as is and discover a bit more.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more! I can spend hours setting up a shot and staring into space.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment! xx
I love reading books that effect me emotionally! If you are really into an emotionally tearing and angering book, check out The Truth about the Harry Quebert Affair - Joel Dicker. That book had me up past midnight many nights in a row!

Hi there Mai,
ReplyDeleteIt's not too large of a novel. Perfect for reading on a weekend off! I read it in half a day >_>
Thanks for your comment! xx
Prepare tissues, chocolate and a hot cup of tea! A blanket helps too.
ReplyDeleteRight in the last chapter, make sure your hold the book away from your face as to not soak the pages!
Thanks for the comment xx
Saturn is pretty neat! I have always found Mars to be interesting. After the images captured last year of the heart shape on Mars, I loved it even more!
ReplyDeleteWould love to see your Milky Way shot! I have always read about Joshua Tree and how it's a great dark sky reserve for photography! We have an amazing dark sky reserve here in New Zealand. It's in Tekapo (South Island). Ive never seen so many stars in my life!

I highly recommend this book!
ReplyDeleteI find that schools don't teach much astrology. I did all of my planet studies outside of school hours! Google is great for finding some awesome Planet and Star websites!
